Playing sangeet-volume music at a haldi. It is a daytime ritual with elders sitting close to the speakers, and the set should sit under conversation rather than over it.

Mid-morning haldi, roughly 90 minutes. Around 25 tracks is the working length. These 8 tracks are the spine of it, not the whole running order — a DJ will fill between them. What matters is that the shape holds: if the tracks that carry the room land in the wrong half hour, adding more music does not fix it.

What should open it?

Haldi Ki Gaanth. Ceremonial opener while the paste goes on. An opener that demands dancing before anyone is ready leaves the floor empty and makes the next three tracks harder, which is the most common way a good playlist still fails.

What should it end on?

Mehndi Hai Rachnewali (Zubeidaa). Slows everything down, in a good way.

Can we just hand this list to our DJ?

Yes — that is what it is for, and the notes matter more than the titles. Any DJ in Gujarat already has this music; what they do not have is your family's read on when the older relatives will be on the floor and when they will have gone to sit down.
