Stilt walkers, and the camel version
Twelve feet of costume that guests photograph on the way in, before anything has started.
What it actually is
A performer on stilts in a full costume works the arrival stretch — greeting guests, posing, walking the line — while people are still filing in and there is otherwise nothing to look at. The camel is the current showpiece version, built so the stilts become the animal\'s legs and a rider sits on top; LED, carnival and character costumes are the cheaper end of the same booking. It fills the dead twenty minutes between gate and function that no other act is willing to cover.

When it works
- The arrival stretch, where guests are queuing and unoccupied
- Outdoors, or a banquet entrance with genuinely high ceilings
- You want photographs of guests, not just of the couple
- Two hours or less of actual performance — that is the standard artist window
The part nobody else prints
How this goes wrong
Check the height before you book, not after. A stilt walker needs twelve to fourteen feet of clearance and cannot pass under a normal marquee, a doorway, a ceiling fan or a low string-light run — the costume that looked spectacular in the vendor\'s reel was shot in an open forecourt. Ground matters as much: soft grass, sand and uneven paving are a fall risk, and a fall from that height at your wedding is not a small problem. Walk the actual route with the vendor.
