Namaste · 2026 wedding season
Planning a Gujarati wedding
A Gujarati wedding runs on food and on garba, and both are bigger than an outsider expects. The functions start earlier in the day than most, the sweet comes before the meal rather than after it, and a substantial part of the guest list is flying in from the US, the UK or East Africa — arriving jet-lagged, on staggered flights, needing rooms and cars.

The functions, in order
If a vendor cannot name these without being told, they have not worked this wedding before. That is not a disqualification — it is a thing to know before you sign.
- 1 Mameru
- 2 Mehendi
- 3 Pithi
- 4 Garba
- 5 Sanjo
- 6 Lagna
- 7 Reception
Guests are greeted with નમસ્તે (Namaste) , and addressed with bhai / ben. The celebration itself is a lagna.
What each vendor has to get right
- Wedding caterers Pure vegetarian, and no onion or garlic for Swaminarayan and many Jain-adjacent families — ask, do not assume 4 requirements · 2 questions to ask →
- Wedding photographers Able to shoot garba properly — low light, constant motion, hundreds of people, for hours 3 requirements · 2 questions to ask →
- Wedding planners and event managers Run an NRI arrivals desk — staggered international flights across several days, with pickups 3 requirements · 2 questions to ask →
- Wedding venues and party plots A real garba floor — large, flat, and able to take hundreds moving in circles 3 requirements · 2 questions to ask →
- Wedding decorators and tent houses Bandhani and patola textiles, toran at the entrances, mirror work 3 requirements · 2 questions to ask →
- Wedding invitation and card makers Gujarati script set properly, with the English as the secondary layer 3 requirements · 2 questions to ask →
And then the guest list
The NRI contingent is the complication. They book late, arrive across several days, and need accommodation and airport pickups that a local-only guest list never accounts for.
That is the part AI Shaadi does. Launching for the 2026 wedding season — no wedding has run for a paying customer yet, and we would rather say so here than let you find out later.
We may have some of this wrong
Practice varies by region, by sect and by family, and these briefs were written from general knowledge rather than from inside the community. If something here is wrong for how your family does it, tell us and we will fix the page — that correction is worth more to us than the page as it stands.
